COURSE DESCRIPTION
By Tony Pincan
One pedal out of the gate then into some natural whoops and a flat right hand bend to link with the old start point. More fast, open track then into the steep rocky part of the course. A mix of chutes, switchbacks and rock features. 2 of the rock sections have B lines.
After the last rock feature, the north shore bridge to 2ft huck, the track speeds up into some log jumps and rooty corners then onto the first road crossing.
The next section is fast, open, off camber drifty corners then onto the next road crossing which now features a road jump. Distance across the road is roughly 20ft to a nice transition. The B line here is around the side of the jump.
Next section is a gradual off camber corner then the first flat section. You can put a few pedals in here but rolling along won't cost you a lot of time. Then another log jump into the off camber rock garden. A new entry here brings you in wider to offer more line choices through this steep rocky section. Next you go through a G out and a series of flowing left - right corners before dropping into the gully. You'll want to carry as much speed as you can at the drop in , as the gully is fairly flat. Sit down and spin for a bit of a rest or mash those pedals for five seconds or so.
The gully drops away, you'll pick up speed as you head for Maribor, a short multi line rock garden (very similar to the real Maribor but not as long). After that is the hip jump, then a tabletop jump, then another 50m flat section before the esses and step down jump. Theres a B line around the step down because a mistake here and you'll fall in the gap. (No one has done that yet, but a certain elite rider came close!)
Another 50m pedal section, then onto a firetrail to pick up speed before a short bus stop. Drop back onto the fire trail, around a bend then another tabletop then the sprint to the finish with a jump over the creek the final obstacle. There is a B line over the creek via a small bridge.

SPINNER'S Race Report from the 2009-2010 VDHS
Last weekend, the Chaingang hosted round 2 of the KONA Victorian Downhill Mountain Bike Series at Yackandandah. Summer arrived early this year, only a month ago we were worried about the state of the race paddock. After a cool and wet winter just like the good old days, we were worried the paddock would not be able to take the amount of cars and people without becoming a boggy slippery mess. But with this year's short spring (what spring ?) the rain stopped, temps hit the 30s and miraculously the paddock dried out to perfection. Phew, crisis over!
Once again, Chaingang member Simon allowed the VDHS circus to invade his property and they came in record numbers. 298 riders rolled up to a fast and drifty track on Saturday which ended up very loose and blown out by race time on Sunday.
The track started 20m further up the hill this time , requiring only one pedal out of the gate to get up to a good speed and into the drifty , whooped first corner. A new line evolved at the first rock garden, but it claimed a few victims. Many hit the ground trying to get a clean run through what appeared to be a fairly straightforward line, the reward being a very nice exit into the next section. It was more difficult than it appeared though and as the weekend progressed the track got more blown out and that desirable line claimed more victims. Thankfully the paramedics only had to call the ambulance twice and the interruptions were kept to a minimum.
Sunday arvo rolled around and elite men hit the track for the finals. Albury rider Dean White put down an impressive qualifier placing 4th fastest but could only manage 12th in the final. Hunty snuck in front of him in 11th but it was the Panozzo brothers that showed they aren't done yet. Joel in 3rd and Liam 2nd place behind current NSW state champion Rhys Atkinson. These three were in a league of their own putting a big gap on the rest of the field. Just as well the Panozzos came to race because Rhys would have won by 15 seconds!
Rhys has done a few runs at Yack in the past and has really found some pace recently, but you've got to hand it to Joel and Liam. Having never seen the track before, they only needed a few runs on Saturday and Sunday morning to get the track sorted before demonstrating the depth of their talent with solid podium finishes.
In elite women Leonie Picton dominated as usual. Shelly Flood ensured Leonies winning margin didn't embarrass the rest of the field and came in 11 seconds behind her. Katelyn Humphries snuck onto the podium in 3rd. Shelly Kamevaar couldn't compete in the finals unfortunately. Her old school Bianchi frame decided it would take no more and during qualifying, it failed in a major way at the step down. R.I.P. Bianchi !
Overall, feedback from the event was positive. The event was a stretch of resources and manpower for our little club and we couldn't have even considered hosting it without the help of many other individuals and clubs. It was a fantastic group effort and we thank everyone that helped out.
